Jay - I'd try to verify that the driveshaft has a angle/rise with the spacers. Perhaps using a short bubble level on the shaft compared to the top of the frame, seeing if the frame runs level and the shaft is on an incline. If it is, remove the spacers. I guess what I'm trying to say is make sure that if it looks on an angle it really is. Looks can be deceiving.

Good idea Stan! I'm almost sure the shaft isn't parallel to the frame.. If I can find my little short bubble level that shouldn't be too hard.. most likely more of a chore to find the level though!

The parts catalog shows the same spacers under the Command (1864 for reference) as the KT (782) uses. I don't have a bare KT plate handy but I thought it had a very slight angle to it, higher toward the front.

I reused my KT spacers on mine.

Yes that's the way they look. If you stand back and look from the side, frame goes one way, motor and driveshaft go the other way. Perplexing but right. Mike

Well I finally had a bit of time this weekend to "play" with the 782 and work on the engine mounting and driveshaft.. The 1864 called for .469" spacers between the engine and the plate.. I did that and didn't like the upward slope of the driveshaft.. So i kept playing with it and wound up with more like 1/4 spacers.. now the driveshaft is nice and in line with the pump shaft.. Also had to go back and slot my plate ever so slightly to give the driveshaft just a bit of float. Everything seems happy now and I am content to leave it alone. I used a fan support and driveshaft adapter from Jeff in PA... Very nice parts! I went back and added two more fan supports behind the fan to use as just spacers.. the fan was almost touching the filter.. Now I have room to get the filter off and not worry with the fan hitting the filter. I rebuilt the CV's with new balls and boots... packed them both with the recommended Polyrex grease.

I'd say by the logo on the filter it's been there just a little while?

Little here, and a little there will get er" done Jay. Maybe not as soon as you'd like, but eventually you'll get there.
As for that filter. That's some good shelf art, when you get it off.
Reminds me of a guy one time asking me if he should change the filter once and awhile. I told him, of course. His response was why, the oil still looked clean...

I have a couple older filters, new in the box, with and without the weeping grass logo. Don't know the age. I plan to use them.
When I bought my new 1863 in 1993, the owner of the Cub Cadet dealership told me I did't need to change the fluid. Just change the filter every few years! I've done a few drain/fills at filter change time. No leaks. Maybe I should pull the rear cover for a look. Drained fluid always looked nice.

At least yours is a little newer. My 1250 still has the original from 1974. It seems almost like the dirt has made it solid and the tractor is so anemic. I guess when I put the 1650 trans in I'll put a new filter on it. I guess people only think they need to change the engine oil.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
