Default tiller talk: springs not that far away:)

John,
Yea I am going to hold off buying new tines until I see how it digs. My Tiller set for years as other projects got in the way!
I was able to clear the decks and get a work area set up to start the assembly work on the tiller next week. Found some gasket material that I will use for the main cases.
I may need to find some shorter SST pop rivets for the ID Tag?

If you go to parts tree.com that have pretty good details exploded parts list.

FYI I did send a email to Binder Books and Maple Hunter about the need for Cub Cadet Implement decals. We will see how far that goes.
Regards,
Chris

Oh yea. I noticed on other forum member's NF tractors that the trans. gearbox has a Hytran plug in the diff. cover to check and fill up when low. Now, some of those plugs are up high, and some are at middle or lower.

That tiller plate will cover up the fill plug on my diff.cover as it is low on the cover. The high fill port is not coverd up by this attachment plate the tiller requires. Just something to think of. If you find any info. out about this, please let us know!

The gear drive tractors have the fill plug lower, and the hydros have it higher. It doesn't matter because the tiller gearbox bracket has a hole for the gear drive fill hole, although it is pretty hard to get the plug out with the bracket installed.

Thanks guys,
I will keep that in mind as I try to set up a tractor for the tiller this spring or summer as the parts come together.
Regards,
Chris

Matt,

I agree. We'll make sure the tractor is full of hytran. before mounting the tiller plate to make things easy. Makes alot of sense when comparing the 2 diffrent diff.covers. Just something I noticed that needed to be brought to attention. Thanks.

Hey Sugarmaker found these decals on CCC but doesn't look like they have any safety related tho? Same problem for a lot of implements for these tractors it seems? I hope they get back to you cause that tiller is looking factory fresh!
http://www.cubclassics.com/nosparts.html
They are listed under NOS Parts as: Original Decals
Box Scraper,Lawn Sweeper,Tiller,Plow,Harrow,Farmall Cub,Loader,55,85,87,Blades,Mowers59M Shredder
$80 seems like a lot for not being a complete set tho? Can't wait to see that think in "action" !

340,
Found what your talking about. Definetally not a complete kit.
I have gotten responses back from both Maple Hunter and Binder Books.
Maple doesn't have them. and Binder doesnt make them but was going to check with their MFG company.
Regards,
Chris

Todd,
Give me a call. Would like to talk Cubs and hunting with you! Looking forward to it!
AJ,
I got the package of used tiller parts today. Thank you very much for the quick service!
Some comments:
- I did find right away what the problem was with the small shaft. It was bent and twisted too. So I will use mine which was ready to go.
-All the bearings look fine too, very good to new condition! All the outer flange bearing retainers were there and in good shape.
-The support brackets (big half moon pcs) for the main body sheet metal to attach to, are thicker than the ones I have and in like new condition! I will be using those with some fresh paint.
-If this was original paint on these used parts then the Rustoleum Antique white I am using is a very close match!
-The dust covers for the main drive shaft looked like new also. Was this tiller even used??
-Main shaft gear set and next shaft and gear set up have been polished and the bearings slip right on! (note all bearings are in place in picture.)
- Drive chains are in the de-greasing tank, and look like very good spares!

In transit there may have been a couple parts lost due to the size and weight of the main drive shaft and other items moving in the box. The box had a big hole in one corner I was very glad that all the main items arrived safely).
Really the only thing I did not find was one of the 1 inch lock rings and I walked over to the bench and picked one from my parts that will still work fine.
So I am good to go on assembly!
I took the last part out of the electrolysis tank and got it in primer.
Friend was over last night and gave me an idea on adding some bling using a piece of stainless to cover a badly pitted portion of the main body. Also going to make the small catch bracket that holds up the swinging flap from stainless and try to put in a 1/4 inch stainless hinge pin and all the stainless hardware. Should look pretty good.
Some pictures of my new to me parts I laid out tonight!
I think this project may just come together after all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
