This post may get moved but I didn't know where else to post it(but it is IH). Went and looked at this today not far from me: Late 1973 154 Cub LoBoy that has pros and cons. Recent drive shaft and clutch replacement, fresh IH stamp carb.rebuild.Runs very good w/no smoke, shifts and stops, lift is good, nice tight Woods 59" deck w/all guards, good sheet metal and fiberglass and comes with a hard to find IH front blade W/hanger! The Bad: Will need a upper column bearing/bushing,steering wheel, missing steering tower/rear engine pulley covers(L/R),Grote rear light, head lights do not work.Hood is a replacement from a early LoBoy,decals don't match the dash cowl. I took these pics before we fixed the L/F tire and then drove/used it. He is firm on the $1,350! I was told it had a rear lift but it does not,if it was there this machine would be home with me right now! I have owned a 154 before and the drive line is a mother to work on and not easy on fuel if you mow thick grass. Any thoughts/inputs would be great! I kinda want it and can justify mowing with it....???

Looks like a decent 154. I'm no expert on them, but I have driven a few, and seen many, many for sale. I would really jump on it if he would move down on the price a bit. Up here in Upstate NY I see these for sale all the time anywhere from $800- $2000 depending on the condition. How hard are they to find in your area? It sounds like he put some money into it, but did he do it right? Look at the rest of his "equipment" and you'll get an Idea how he maintains things...I see a few "specimens" in the pic..lol
If it were me...just me now..I would probably keep looking. If your willing to haul one, check out up here in NY..seems like every day I see another one listed on CL or some other for sale site. just my ![]() Jeff (teet)

Jeff, you see them on CL on/off at times down here. Would really like to have one W/rear lift. Pics are taken at his home and a killer bone yard of vintage muscle everywhere! Mopar's,Bowtie,Ford and rat rod projects. Harley Davidson MC and Pitt Bull dogs too! I waited for him to come outside before I opened my truck door!

You are correct!! The drive line is BEAR to work on. I've owned 2 of them, 154 a 185 and one older cub lowboy. I liked the older lowboy better although none of the have a water pump so they run hot easy in tall grass and not much power. They are very comfortable to mow with though. I've been hunting for one of the older lowboys.

Ha ha ha! No,just a lead I had to follow up on. Nashcub sent me 5 CL listings, one in Louisville for $800 and one listing for a 184 in another state. I too really like the looks of the 184. Guess I'm going to pass on this one! Thanks on the input guys!

I have a 154 that I installed a 3 point on, even have a Brinly 12" plow adapted to it and it pulls it great, will even raise the front wheels off of the ground about 10" in hard soil.
![]() Also have a front blade, and a L59 Woods mower for it......works great for mowing and snow removal. I am very happy with the tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
