Thanks. Why is it called the Cyclops? (I mean mine only has one eye, so it's appropriate, lol). But why is it called that for others with 2 actual headlights?

You're too kind. It's going to need work for sure. But I'm super happy with it, although it did stop cranking yesterday and I had to push a yard cart full of wood backwards up a slight hill to the woodpile.

I'm furiously reading right now to figure out what's keeping it from starting. I don't want to start asking questions about it on the forum though because there is plenty of info on how to diagnose it! So, I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'm going to go step by step and narrow it down to the exact problem.

They’ve been named Cyclops tractors because of the single headlight lens that runs all the way across the front.

Welcome again! I cut my teeth and tons of grass on a 149 for years and years and it’s still going. The good thing is once most of the bugs are worked out you will have a great running and reliable tractor. In my opinion the best one they ever made

There are two of us documenting the rebuilding of our 149s right now. I've learned a lot and the folks here have made a nearly impossible job possible. I had never even seen an early Cub Cadet before I bought mine and they are far and few between here in the high desert of Colorado. Welcome and have fun.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
