Does anyone know if they made 2 different main wiring for the 982? One with rear pto and one with out. I have one that does not use the jumper wires for the 2nd PTO switch .

So they have one harness for a tractor with rear PTO with serial no.744199 & below. One harness with out PTO 744200 and above ? Thanks much |

This is/was an interesting search. There is still some unanswered questions from my point of view...
![]() I looked through my paper Library at TC-193 Section H. It was produced by IH and was good until the CCC take over. I looked through the official Cub Cadet Parts Lookup site which is currently produced & run by MTD. In the TC-193, they list two wiring harnesses: (A) 725-3028 was used until S/N: 744,199 (which was into the middle of 1985) (B) 725-3117 was used beyond S/N: 744,200 1985 & newer The 982 was produced from 1979 to 1984. 1979 to 1980 by IH and 1980 to 1984 by CCC. MTD introduced two variations: (A) 984 same as 982 but with a rear PTO and CAT 0 Hitch (B) 986 same as 984 but with front Hydraulics Both the 984 and 986 were produced from 1982 to 1984 (S/N: 724,525 to 737,624) In 1985 CCC replaced the 982/984/986 with 1912 & 1914 (S/N: 737,625 to 747,224). The 1912 & 1914 was produced in 1985 & 1986. This is a bit foggy but this is what I can find: 984 = 1912 986 = 1914 The 725-3028 was used on all 982 versions up until 1985 (S/N: 744,199) The 725-3117 was used ...??????? No Information other than used above S/N 744,200. As an educated guess, I am thinking of some Gov't mandated safety devices. Thus, it is clear to me, that the 725-3028 was used on 982's regardless if the tractor had a rear PTO or not. I hope this sheds some light on your inquiry. BTW.....The the Master Wiring Diagram, they list 982, 984, & 986 and ALL of them show a rear PTO.

I know they're different SGT's but my new harness for my 1872 came with the jumper connection for the rear pto so I'd say Roland is right on.

Comparing a 982 schematic without a rear PTO to one with a rear PTO looks like 2 harnesses were used. It looks (from the schematics) that they simply added the second PTO switch and SOME of the connections to that switch for the rear PTO are simply in parallel an hooked up to connections for the front PTO switch.

From my research, I respectfully disagree.
The only difference between the Non-Rear PTO and a tractor with, is this following in this diagram. This could have been easily added without modification to the original harness.

I agree it would have made more sense to make the same harness for both the non-rear pto and rear pto 982. My co-worker has a 982 (no rear pto) with original harness that has the connections for the rear pto. I know one of the connections has a factory supplied jumper but not sure about the rest, it's been too long since I've looked.
