Some newer blowers do have the paddles. They sell replacements at my local TSC. I did it to mine because the PO dented up the housing and bent an impeller fin. Plus we tend to get the wet snow more often and it does improve your distance with heavy snow. Both blowers I have have a good 1/2" clearance between the fin and the housing.

Thanks for all the good information. You guys are slowly talking me out of putting on the 451 blower I recently picked up. May just check it out this winter and flip it next year because I don't normally get a lot of snow at a time.

If you don't get a lot of snow, a blade is better. However: When you need one, it's hard to come by. There was at least 2 maybe even 3 winters in a row here I didn't use mine since I've owned it. I will NEVER sell it as long as I have a cub it fits on. Because when you want or need one...... they double in price and become one of the most hard to find items.....

Very true J-mech. I have seen 451 and 551 blowers advertised for upwards of $1200 dollars recently, but I personally don't think they will ever sell at that price unless you find a desperate person in one of the snow belts. Really haven't had any snows in the last 21 years since I bought my 2182 with the a haban blade that it couldn't handle. Thanks for the advice.

I couldn't believe it, but I watched it sell. In Oct of 2010, a 450 sold on e-bay for $1300.00! Have never seen one even close to that price since.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
