The hydrostat in my 1782 is much smoother when changing speeds, starting and stopping than my older Cub Cadets. The older ones have had the trunion repair done, linkage rebuilt and tightened up (not too tight though) and the damper springs replaced. The 1782 only has about 720hrs. on it and it's noticeably smoother than my 125 or 1450. Any thoughts as to why?

The SGT's are geared a little lower than the others. That maybe why. Could be an adjustment issue, or maybe even the relief valves. But, it's probably just the difference in machines.

What he said. SGT's seem to be slower but smoother. I have a 1641 that will lift the front wheels of the ground if you are not nice and easy with it compared to my 2182 that is more like OK I guess we need to go but we are in no big rush.

I had the same problem with a JD 318 that would almost lift the front end off of the ground if you were not real careful. It turned out to be the damper that keeps the operator from moving the go lever too fast. My 1811 is very smooth and even if moved rapidly will not jerk that much. I think it might be a personality more than anything mechanical. Maybe you shouldn't use the CC when you have such a bad hangover!

No alcoholic refreshments for me. It doesn't agree with my meds. That could be the problem for some folks though. When my neighbor was still married, he would putt around the yard all evening after work with a beer in one hand. In his case, I couldn't blame him.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
