I apologize if I missed something obvious reading through old posts, but the K301 in my 1250 died a few weeks ago and I finally have time to get it going again before winter. Basically, as the title states, I can see spark at the points but not at the plug, and a lil shot of ether through the carb does nothing at all which confirms my no-spark diagnosis. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to possible issues on this one? I tried bypassing the switch directly providing power to the coil without luck. I also tried replacing the plug wire with one from O'Reillys, but am not convinced its the correct one. Before I trek down to the CC dealer for a new plug wire, would it be worth it to get a condenser as well?
Many thanks fellas, Carl |

Might be a bad plug try replacing it with a known good one and see if ya got spark. Hows the cable look? Got continuity thru it?

Pull the plug, lay it on the head and spin the engine. If it sparks, you are good at least to the spark plug. Sometimes, plugs will fire outside the cylinder but not inside under compression.
How did you check spark at the points? Just curious. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
