I have a 1250 with a rust out 38" deck with bad spindles. I picked up a 44" deck/carrage/mule drive that was being used on a 1250. The person I bought it from said the previous owner took the 44" deck and carrage/mule drive off of a 1711 and changed the center pulley to the correct 5" 3/8 pulley for a 44A. I believe the deck I have is a late model 44C. Before attempting to put the deck on my 1250 I changed out the 5" pulley for the 4" "speedup" pulley. I followed the belt chart and purchase belt IH-59971-C1 3/8 by 78". This belt is way too short. I tried a old belt from my 126 with 42" deck. This belt is 80" long. It is at least 2" too short. Has anyone ran into this problem before?

I compared my mule drive to one I have for a 129 with 44 deck and I noticed that the pulleys are the same but farther forward on the 1711 mule drive. The previous owner must have swapped out the 5/8 pulleys for 3/8. I ended up using the 129 mule drive with the 1711 carrage. With the 4 inch center pulley the 79" belt is borderline too long. I'm gonna give it a try and if it's too loose, I will swap in the 78" belt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
