Default Grote tail light lens clip
I picked up a new lens for the old Grote 218 tail light on my Cub 123, and when I went to attach it, one of the sheet metal clips inside the housing snapped off. I'm hoping someone has a source for these, or has an old Grote lamp they don't mind parting out. Anyone?

If I am thinking what you are talking about, that piece is spot welded to the housing.

Pictures would help, so we know exactly talking about.

These are attached to the housing with a sheet metal screw, driven in from the outside. I'm going to try attaching a photo of one removed from the housing. The screw that's in the clip is the one used to attach it to the housing, and the other hole is where the lens screw goes.

I tried all of the sponsors at the top of the page, but it seems none of them can (or want to) help. Patton Acres says they have none, then their email sig says they have over 300 garden tractors in their bone yard. I can't imagine there aren't a few old tail lights among them, but perhaps it's too small a part for them to bother.

It should be easy enough to make one, unless your worried about keeping it original. Just take a strip of sheet metal and drill two holes and bend a 90,it won't be seen once it's together

Just a thought, Look thru a Caddy Electrical catalog or web site. They make clips alot like this that could be modified to work.

Fred, if Patton's had one, they would sell you one. Those Grotes are getting harder to find and bringing more money. Can you repair the one you have?

The original is hard spring steel, which is why it broke so easily, but I guess that's also why it was able to hold the lens tightly to the housing without deforming. I can surely make a replacement, but was hoping to save the trouble and keep this 100% original cub 100% original.

What does a full Grote light go for? I'd likely be willing to buy one, just for the parts.

If Rich Patton had it he would have sold it. No matter how big or small if he has it he sells it. Rich and our other site sponser have never let me down. If it wasn't for them we couldn't have this great free to use site.

Your bracket looks nothing like the one on my 71.
