Hello All,
I nearing the end of a full restoration on a 2182. Still have a few things to wrap up but I got it out last night was going to use the tractor to move a trailer with the 3 pt. Up and down movement of the 3 pt with no load has worked fine and im pretty sure with the arms in the raised position that they will stay put and not drop down after days of sitting but last night i tried lifting the tongue of a trailer (maybe 200 lbs maybe more i really dont know) and i had to keep the lever of the valve pulled out or the arms would just lower right back down. I didnt screw around with it because it was getting dark and my first thought this morning was maybe i didnt top off the fluid (if it could even be a low fluid issue?) no noises and the tractor drove and steered normal. I have zero hydo leaks. Wasnt sure exactly how these hydo systems worked and didnt know whether or not to dig into the valve or the cylinder first. well after i check the fluid of course. But lets say the load was too much... will this sort of problem occur? it had no problem lifting it to the highest level but wouldnt hold it there when i released the lever. Thanks in advance |

as far as weight I was lifting the trailer was an enclosed single axle 6x10 and has a cub 100 sitting in it. (maybe the tractor was sitting too far forward of the axle? )

Internal leakage with in the cylinder and/or overloading the relief valve.

thanks. I feel like it was overloaded. I'm going to see how far forward that tractor was sitting when I get home

well maybe not. tractor in trailer was sitting right over the axle. shouldnt been that tongue heavy

If it would lift it, it was not too much weight. They are designed to lift heavy 3 pt tillers. You have either a lift cylinder with internal leakage or the control valve with internal leakage.

sending off relief valves to mark @ machtech. he said he could possibly rebuild the control valve as well but not the lift cylinder. I assume they are like the power steering cylinder - unable to be dismantled?
anyway instead of chancing another so called good used cylinder i ran across this https://www.customcylindersintinc.co...ift-cylinder-0 anybody else tried them? i didnt see anything about them with the search on here thanks |

You can rebuild your old cylinder. Diesel Doctor has a kit he put together when he rebuilt the one on my 1572. I have not looked yours up but I think they are the same. I like the new cylinder that you found as well. Great price.

To start with, the "relief" valves you are describing (sending off) are for the Fwd./Reverse motion of the tractor, not the lift.
If you look in the manual of your tractor, the impliment "relief" will be pointed out to you. It is a small spring/ball arrangement with selectable shims to to adjust pressures while the pressure gauge is observed. You are possibly experiencing a lift cyl that is blowing by the "O" ring seal on the piston. Most cylinders are rebuildable but some have to be cut apart on a lathe and rewelded after new seals are installed. That said, your pressure gauge should give you a feel for what is going on. |
