I did not put it overtop of the metal tin as you can see in those other pictures. I thought about it, but I just didn't know how and if it would work. Also, I didn't paint the area of the cowl where the decal would be applied, but I did sand it smooth.

I followed your lead and applied mine to the plastic. My tin was good, just awfully faded and textured so I didn't think it would look good.
 I also spent $.20 on felt at Walmart to protect my gas tank:   :biggrin2.gif:

Looks good!! I like the felt. On the cowl before I re-did it, there was a piece of what looked like weatherstripping. I didn't know if that was factory or not. That is something I definitely want to do before opening/shutting the hood too much.
