I’ve got another question that’s got me stumped. Why does this 10 horse have a wrap around heat shield and my 12 horse have a short one? My 125 has a replacement engine , so I thought that was the answer. But then I found this 10 horse on eBay, original engine, short heat shield. The reason I’m asking is because when taking parts off the 10 horse, it seemed like everything on the exhaust side of the motor had gotten hot at some point. Points wire and coil wire were baked and brittle. Head bolts on that side were really hard to remove etc... should I find a short shield or is it something I’m putting way to much thought into?

Thank you. Got at it early this morning, and then I found this! Can’t believe I forgot to paint the tank.... it was wrapped up in a towel in the corner.

I did save myself 80 bucks for a drive hub. Just welded it up, and cut out the slot with a grinder. Should work for a bit.

Loooooookingood!
Change your oil as soon as you can, and often. Sand blasting the engine like that will have sand finding its way in. Don't ask me how I know. Regardless, you're doing a damn good job. |

Thanks again everyone. Very good advice on changing the oil, I didn’t sandblast anything, that’s just primer after a once over with the old wire wheel.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
