Hey Chris, That exhaust looks great A 45 would make it. Gonna be loud with out a baffle tho. I will drag out the break this week and bend up a bracket for you, it won't be to scale I don't have that style cub (YET #&$@ %*). I think you have the talent to make your self a pair once you see the design.

Looks good Chris. I like it both ways, (now don't get the wrong idea) old school flapper is always a hit. I have one on my little 1110 with a Briggs, and at idle it's cool
Just flops up and down, but it is one loud moe foe.I've got the stack on my 100 running off the muffler which is much easier on the ears, and I just cut it at 45 and it looked as sweet. Actually it's a little more than a 45, looked slicker.

Wow thanks for all the suggestions and comments!
Stack came out OK but need some attention to be in final form. I have decided to come off the block with 1 inch short nipple, the a 1 inch 45 degree elbow, another short nipple then into the larger pipe. I still have to design/ fab the bracket to hold it to the head bolts so it is stable and reduces stress on the block. Good news and bad news! Lets start with the good news! IT RUNS! ![]() Put in a quart of gas, opened sediment bowl petcock, minor gas drip until turned to full on. No other fuel drips. Climbed aboard, pulled out the choke. set to 1/2 throttle and it cranked two revs and fired right up! I was very pleased it fired right up! I think the timing was spot on! Thanks Matt! I thought I had a stock car engine with a cam under the hood!!! YOU guys were right this is one loud puppy! I even had the exhaust point towards the ground. **** Wife even thought it was loud from in the house! Neighbors were hanging out the windows**** I played with the throttle and choke to keep it running for about 5 min., no carb adjustments just minor throttle blips and easing off the choke as it warmed up. It did not want to run with out some choke. Again no carb. adjustments were made at that time. Just letting the feel and sounds and smells of that new rebuild soak in. Remember: I had never had this tractor running after I brought it home 4 months ago. THAT was SWEET! By the way I tested the trans and it moved the tractor in reverse and forward another good sign! Shut it down and drained the oil and filled with new oil, 3 pints. Fired it up again and backed it out of the garage for some carb tuning. and a 20 min warm up. Well here's where thing went down hill a little, nothing serious. I tried adjusting the carb high and low speed jets a little and it would run for several minutes then just stop, Almost like it was out of gas?? Adjusting the jets seemed to calm the engine down a little and smooth out the rough idle. It would start back up with the choke out. (that's pretty normal) I did not get too excited, as its new and lots of thing have happened in the restoration. I ran it for 20 min. and when I tried to start it again the battery was getting weaker and weaker. NOT charging . I'm thinking about you guys mentioning poor ground. I need Your help in understanding all the components that have to have a good ground. Nothing in the book that tells you! Neighbor stopped over and I had him help me. I pulled the gas tank. He held it while I pulled the gas tank support, and top tin, and I re-torqued the head bolts and reassembled the tank support and tank. Its on the charger right now. If you hear something it might just be me firing it up again ![]() ALSO I may need trans adjustments. When I try to start it it seem like it wants to engage the trans and move the tractor forward just for a moment then it stops? I jacked the back up to make sure it doesn't run away with me. So I need help in that area too ![]() Sorry for the long winded message. Regards, Chris

guys, I will try to be quick.
I left the electrical problem alone for the nite. have the bat on charge. I did make some progress on the exhaust. (I would much rather work on mechanical than electrical). Yea its going to be close to the hood. Some shots of what happened to the piece of stainless plate. I whittled it down to shape, drilled some holes to attach to the head bolts. Whittled and fit a bracket to weld to the pipe, drilled three 1/4 inch holes to be able to un-mount the pipe, from the manifold pipe. This seems very ridged and should allow me to proceed with fabing a small stainless heat shield to protect the decals. That is still in the design phase. Which means I haven't rummaged thru the junk to see what I have yet. The $10 china made Harbor Freight 4-1/2 inch grinder bit the dust! It was on fire in my hand for a couple seconds. Glad I had gloves on! Hey thanks I did find that vent hole for the carb bowl. Never knew it was there. I poked a small piece of plastic through it and it could have been plugged??? I think I found why the seat back folds flat! Excellent place to park your drinks or a snack. I did get out the 86 and hauled 4 loads of wood while this red thing just set there and pouted. Regards. Chris

juniors1282,
Well that's a very nice compliment. Thanks! Especially since I don't really have a clue what I am doing. First exhaust system I have built. Most of the ideas have come from this site. You guys are right the pictures are the key. I was going to get fancy and put a another bend in the pipe from the block, but decided to keep it simple. Straight out and straight up! The proof will be in how it holds up? I am seriously thinking of dropping one of those small mufflers down in there to quiet it down. If I ever get it running again ![]() Regards, Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
