So it's got the model number of a 1812, it looks like a 2072 and a serial number that doesn't exist, it's right in between the 1.000 gap between 1987 and 1988. Now that's a mystery.

Has the wrong tag on it. And the 1000 gap is a typo in the book they wouldn't have randomly skipped a thousand numbers in production!

Being that the person that typed up those serial number manuals seems to have suffered from dyslexia, I would say it's a 1872 made in 1987. If it showed up anywhere near here it would have been in my garage already, next to the inflatable bed I'd be sleeping in for buying another Cub.

Could be an 1872. Hope you get it, they're nice machines.

Obviously, it is a SGT. If it has a Kohler M-18, then it is a 1872, If it has a M-20, then it is a 2072.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
