127 hydro lever removal

OK Folks,
Over the years I've had to frequently loosen the screw, lift lever up onto spines, and retighten the screw on the hydrostatic lever on my Cub127.

Today I snapped the screw head off. So, I thought I'd remove the lever and investigate a more permanent solution. It took about 45 mins. to extract the screw and (to my dismay) the lever will not lift off the shaft. Not even whit a flat bar.

Anyone have a trick?
