trouble shoot 1650
hi all,
Ok, I got the trans fluid changed AND filter. Took the mower deck off awhile ago but I put it back on without major problem. It was my first time putting one back on and I think I did pretty good at it. Prior to this the tractor has been running decent since I bought it without any real maintenance on it yet. Only ran it a few times to shovel snow. Still some white smoke coming out but seems to clear up after letting it run. After the fluid change and deck back on I wanted to go out and mow some lawn to see if I got everything set correctly. She ran but kept backfiring and smoking badly. I could feel the heat(and smell burnt oil) from the engine and she seemed to run smoothly at half throttle(a few times). She quick on me a few times hards. Fed up I decided to quit for the day. After doing some grilling I wanted to try her out again for the hell of it. This time she ran great and I got the lawn mowed!   Ok well at lest that time she work.  I want to make a note that I added some really good star-gon fuel treatment to the gas. It only takes one ounce to EVERY 3 GALLONS! I dont know if this is what caused all the bad backfiring, white smoke, vibrations, etc or not.  Anyhoo she worked good the second try. lolMy next plan of attack I think I want to tackle the carb, points and condenser. New Oil, air filter, trans fluid and filter, pumped up the tires.....DONE.
