New to Cubs in NJ
Hi Folks, I'm not new to old iron collecting. Over the years I've built up a collection of two-wheel Gravelys and a few odd tractors, tillers, mowers and engines. I have a fondness for Wisconsin engines and wanted to build a tractor around the two-cylinder THD, so I was out searching for a larger frame garden tractor as a starting point. That's when I came across this Cub Cadet 108! I've always been impressed with the Cubs, and this one was in my price range so, as you'll understand, it followed me home! After going over it and learning all about Cubs from your group I got the Cub Bug and decided to clean it up and keep it original. Guess I'll have to find another tractor for my Wisconsin project.
I thought the engine was frozen up but after pulling it out it only took a bump with a strap wrench to free it up. As you can see, the fan shroud was packed solid with rodent nesting, which was one reason I couldn't turn the crank by hand. I'll post updates as work progresses. I posted a question earlier this week about repowering the 108 with a K301 I already had but I've decided to keep it simple and use the original engine since it's in better shape than I thought. Thanks for the advise I got from that post. I'm going to enjoy sharing with this group! Best regards, Howard Mosley
