Refinishing a Cub hood

When you refinish a Cub Hood do you sand it clean, decals and all. I want to sand mine and get the rust all off it, but didn't know what you did to get the old decals off. I see some pictures of beautiful refinish jobs on here.

I didn't want to leave the old decals and then have that peal off somewhere down the road. My hood metal is in good shape, but it has a lot of scratches and rusty looking places.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
