Ok folks, I've managed to accumulate 2 brinly cultivators. One has all 7 factory original sweeps and shovels, the spreader bars, and the locks. I plan to use these both behind my 106.
I intend to use one cultivator frame with 6 sweeps to control the weeds in my broccoli-cauliflower and corn rows by driving the tractor over the plants (no center sweep). Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. How deep should I set the sweeps, about an inch, deeper if it doesn't cover everything? Should I use floating straps on my hitch or no? The float button in my armstrong lift is broke, it does not float in its current condition. Where do I want my weight, and how much weight am I gonna want? I was thinking about 20 lbs on the cultivator itself and no weight on the wheels. I'm curious if anyone tried replacing the shovel on a brinly stake with a really wide one and had luck using it in a Brinly Cultivator by itself to dig potatoes, or should I just buck up and buy a real potato plow? I'm also wondering if anyone has a lead on a kit to add a pair of discs to make a row bedder/potato hiller, or something that they may have made. (Note the difference in potato plow depth if I hill the potatoes. Will a single cultivator sweep dig hilled potatoes different than a crop that has not been hilled?) How about an injector sweep and any sort of side dress fertilizer feeder, either something like one commonly seen on a Farmall 140 or a converted spreader? I want one and have a few ideas dancing around, but haven't accumulated the right junk just yet. (I asked Santa for an an Earth Way 1001b seeder and 1600 Fert-A-Ply attachment for Christmas and I'd promptly adapt it to a sleeve hitch, ideas over $250 are welcome but not likely to beat that combo for me, personally). My ultimate goal here is to teach the kids (and maybe some adults) how to farm with a tractor. I'm not trying to win any trophies, and I am trying to cut every corner I can safely and reliably cut.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
