1572 ignition switch reoccuring issue

Last fall my "original" key switch started acting up on me. I had to jiggle the key to get it to make contact internally to get it to run the coils and actuate the starter. No big deal, I replaced the switch once spring came around. Apparently this was only a temporary fix as the new OEM switch did the same as well as the 2 other switches i've replaced since then. They only seem to last about 2 weeks weather it gets used or not. For the time being I just ran a wire from the starter solenoid and just tapped it to the battery when I needed to fire it up. But now the most recent switch won't even run the pump without jiggling the switch. The last switch I pulled out had water in it so I wrapped this one in tape and it didn't seem to help. First off am I getting bad switches? I would think they could handle some rain being that its designed for outdoor equipment. The mower is stored outside do to lack of storage. Am I getting crap switches or is there a bigger electrical issue that's causing the switch internals to go bad?

Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
