Thanks for your responses. This may not be a complete restoration but I intend to return this machine to it's original configuration.
I ran into a guy today that said he was a former employee of one of our sponsors. He went on to say that he spent a good deal of time disassembling derelict machines and placing the parts on shelves, in bins, or wherever but nobody ever made an inventory of these parts. He even told of removing complete power plants. (i.e. engine, carb, ign, muffler, fuel cell, generator) I have visited this sponsors web store in the past and never gave it much mind because it showed little to no inventory except uncounted machines rusting away in a field. You get to do a lot of thinking while working on your machines. Memories come to me from the seller. He mentioned he has known the owner of this very same sponsor for a very long time. He didn't say where he acquired this machine and I never asked. As I have stated previously, this particular machine appears to have been exposed to the elements for quite some time. Could it be? Do we think? I'm going to have to make a call. I made some progress. The tractor is split and the control cam has been freed. Tomorrow comes the steering wheel and column so I can get access to the hydro control friction assembly. If I have time I will chuck a drill motor to the pump shaft and see if there is any happiness in the rear end. Not shown... the "return to neutral rod" was snapped off at the clevis and the "T pin" is worn to a D on the back side. I can repair that. Is rod supposed to have a bend in it?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
