Default New addition....1641

Well the other day I did something I thought I would never do. I bought a Cyclops tractor, a 1641. Up until this point my collection has all been mostly all IH, 109-1000-1450-782. The only exception was my 2072 super.

I found this tractor on a Craigslist near me. I was amazed at how clean it was. I read the ad and found that it only had 220 hours on it. I was intrigued by this as I have been keeping an eye out for low hour tractor to assume my mowing duties from my 1000. So I thought I would go look at it, what could it hurt.

I set up a time to go check it out and it was just as nice in person as in the pictures. It has a 46" deck and fluid filled rear tires. There are no cracks anywhere in the plastics. Hands down the engine is the cleanest I have seen in a garden tractor save for a complete restoration. All the manuals came with the tractor with documentation of the service history. Oh, and it has the much coveted front bumper.

Negotiations commenced and we settled on fair price and it came home with me. I never have given much thought to the Cyclops tractors and maybe even turned my nose up towards them in the past because of all the plastic, but now I have one.

If time permits this weekend I want to give the tractor a good servicing. I have a set of ag tires for the rear and some wheel weights. I think I am going to put on a old style seat as well as I find them more comfortable. Down the road I will get some v61 tires for the front too.

I plan on putting this tractor into service shortly and look forward to learning more about. You may see me posting up some Cyclops questions in here if I run into any issues.

For now here are some pics of how she sits right now. I will ad some more after my tire swap.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
