1450 hydro whinning

I got her running last night. I had a whine in the hydro. I checked the oil level this morning and added 2 qts of type F ATF, (PO told me that was what was in her). I still have the whine. Is this normal with a hydro? I've only had gear drives for the last 8 yrs or so.
Also, the handle that controls the front hydraulic ports won't stay centered. (If you remember, my hydraulics aren't working, the pins(?) in the valve box are stuck). Could this be the problem with the front port control lever, no pressure to keep it centered?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
