Hey Guys,
I'm new here but I'm not a stranger to cub cadet's. I was given my grandfather's old 1972 129 Cub Cadet that has all the manuals, three point hitch, tiller, 48" deck, snow blower, and a aftermarket snow cab. Unfortunately the engine that was rebuilt fairly recently started knocking pretty bad about a year after the rebuild. I haven't tore into it to see what's going on. I bought a cosmetically rough 1650 and was going to swap the 16HP engine and the hydro lift into the 129 and then I realized the more I changed it the less it would be my grandpa's tractor. So the new plan is to fix the motor mounts on the 1650 and use that as a work horse and restore the 129 to use to cut my grass. I also am trying to get a hold of my other grandfather's cub cadet original (He bought it new in the early 60's). We used it by my grandmother's a few years after he passed away but it hasn't ran in probably 10 years or so. I think the starter portion of the generator finally gave out. For about 10 years before that there was a dead spot in it and if the tractor wouldn't turn over you'd have to reach to the starter and turn it by hand a bit to get it to work. I think there might be a snow blower and a deck lying around for it too if my uncle didn't take them in for scrap. I don't ever remember driving the 129 when i was younger, but I was always using the original. He had a simplicity to cut the grass but it wasn't fast enough to use with the lawn sweeper. The cub had no problems with speed. He also had a ball mounted to the front of the tractor to ease parking trailers/boats. I also remember us pulling down his old broken down garage with the tractor. We pounded a few holes in the siding and wrapped a chain through around a bunch of the studs. Put the tractor in 1st gear and gave the garage a few tugs till it fell over, then we dragged it out to his burn pit and burned it. I'll never forget watching that little cub cadet pull the two car garage down and then drag it across the yard. Take care, GC |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
