there is no place to put a ring gear on the flywheel. the ring gear shroud is just a tad larger in a couple spots but should fit in a 149 with no issues. you could probably take a die grinder to the bearing plate to notch it for the starter if there's none there if you don't want to change it and you don't need a stator for charging. you won't weaken it. you will need the shroud with a hump and a flywheel with a ring gear. installing a stator does make for a clean installation. if you are thinking of using an electric PTO make sure the block has the holes to bolt it on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
