129 Here and Gone
Hey all! I've been very busy with multiple projects this spring, but I still managed to save yet another Cub and turn it back out to the working world. I had been watching this 129 for at least 3 years as it sat on the back-back burner in a local small engine shop (I spied it from the railroad tracks). I finally got a chance to go down the other week and talk up the shop owner and make him an offer, which he called me back later in the day to accept. Tractor was in fair condition but had defineatley been worked on by a non-Cub mechanic. Turns out it had a very new K301 installed not long before it was taken out of service and it ran great once I got everything tuned and adjusted properly. The 44A deck was probably the best part of the whole deal, and I'm kinda kicking myself for not swapping it out for the one on my 149 (the one on the 129 is the earlier first-offering A deck that is correct for the 1x8/9 series, the one on my 149 is off a Quietline). Anyway, I took it down to the frame and did all the usual stuff, replacing missing/incorrect hardware, grinding out slots in the foot rest screws for removal, etc... The hydro was tight and smooth with no leaks. Someone had butchered the brake-style PTO beyond repair/adjustment so I replaced it with a narrow frame clutch out of my spare parts inventory and it worked fine. Had all the repairs done within a week and had it all back together and for sale on Thursday. A local Cub enthusiast saw it on the corner and brought me my full asking price on Saturday. A tidy profit and I had fun working on it and it goes to a good home with a 125, 1812, Cub-A and a Lowboy for company! Happy Ending!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
