782 problems
Well, I got my carb together, and got it back on the tractor last evening, thought I'd try to get it running today. While it was down I also installed an 1811 remote oil filter set up. For background info it is a Series II KT17, and I went from a leaky walbro to an overhauled Kohler carb from an older Series I KT17.
Fired up and ran after getting fuel into it, but seems like it wants to overspeed if I give it much throttle. I didn't undo governor linkage while I made the carb swap, I ran it at maybe 1/3-1/2 throttle for a few minutes, engine stopped dead (I was thinking seizure) hit the key and it restarted immediately (what the ?) I unscrewed the oil filter to see if I had oil psi, and I do have oil going into the center of the filter, but it seems weak. WHAT IS OIL PSI AT IDLE? I have a gauge at work I'm going to bring home tomorrow. Secondly, how can I check my idle/ full throttle rpm? What tool can I use? I'd like to get this adjusted right. I scrolled through the KT17 service manual linked here on the site, but the oil psi really concerns me. I didn't see an idle spec listed. Is there a way the remote filter/lines should be primed? What is the oil capacity of a KT17? I found the preliminary carb idle/main jet adjustments and I'm going to redo the governor adjustment per the service manual. Anyone have any other advice?
