105 Split and Service
For supposedly being the cornerstone of my Cub collection, the 105 was always the last to be used in rotation or get any service. It always maintained its' spot in the back of the shed although it has become an inadvertant shelf for various items on more than one occasion while dozens of other Cubs have come and gone over the past 5-6 years. The older boy has been properly riding me about getting it out of it's hole and 'doing to it what you did to the 125 last summer' (split and service hydro).
With one week left before school starts, we dug into it Friday, and had the trunnion welded and all back together by supper tonight. Pretty much a text-book split and trunnion repair; it was a bad speed-lurcher from day one and leaked Hytran from the cork gasket bad enough to warrant a drip pan under it at all times when it was parked/stored. A new machined trunnion end, cork gasket, springs and end caps, and Hytran and filter plus replaced the original worn-out dowel pin. Didn't even make a colossal mess this time! Everything cleaned up well, and as of tonight, not a single drop of Hytran on the floor! Popped the top cover plate off the rear end and refilled with Hytran the easy way. Was able to start the tractor and watch the pump suck down the fluid level and prime itself. Always amazed at how clean things are in the rear housing and how well built these tractors are. Mowed with it for a good hour after supper and it feels great!  Another MAJOR to-do checked off the list! Next up- hydro relief valves on the 982...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
