question about a 123
On a 123 that I'm working on, it has a sediment bowl under the tank. Is it supposed to stay full, when gas IS in the tank?

Yes it is!!...Glad to hear that another 123 is getting some use! I shut mine off when not in use, but they should contain fuel at all times.

It's always a good idea to replace the old cork gasket around the top of the sediment bowl. The old cork will begin to become the sediment that the bowl is supposed to eliminate and it will likely migrate into the carb and block up your needle, restricting the fuel flow enough to keep the engine from running. I got a bunch of scrap cork from my dad, he said they were the drops from cork gasket production, it was exactly the right thiickness and I was able to reuse the screen that was there, too.

So I removed, and cleaned the carb on the 123 today. What a horrible mess. The fuel inlet was clogged, and I found a large hole in the float. Last time it ran well, the fuel inlet must have been metering the fuel so it wasn't leaking out the carb. Now it is leaking out the carb, so I have to re check the newer float and see if it has a hole I did not see. or the needle may be shot.
Funny thing is that my car (Honda ) smelled of gas today. It is just a day full of fuel system failures!!! Worst of all, is that I hate that smell. Gives me the biggest darn headache!!!!!!!!
