Default Blades for a XT2 LX42

I am trying to determine the correct lawnmower blades to install on my XT@ LX42.

The current blades have 742-05177 stamped on them. They also seem to be "Standard Blade System" type. (See attached images).

When I enter 742-05177 into the Cub Cadet Part Search "feature" on their website, I get 9 different blades. The pictures of each on of these seem to be the "S Blades" with a S-Shaped mounting hole.

However, of the 9 different blades, 742P05177, 742P05576, 490-110-191 & 742-05576-0637 are labeled "This Part Replaces 742-05177". I am assuming that 742P05177 would probably be my best bet but it has that "S-Shaped" mounting hole - as do all of them.

I am pretty sure that my blade will have a Star shaped spindle hole when I remove it. I see there is a 490-110-C108 high lift blade with a star shaped spindle hole but it doesn't indicate that it is a replacement for the 742-05177 blade.

Do I have some sort of unicorn blade?

Scott,

You really need to pull you blade off and match it up. Or provide your full (13 digit I believe) model number.

To me it appears you have s-type P/Ns on your blades. IIRC those started shipping on 2022 or 2023 MYs.

Here's a mulching set https://www.farmandfleet.com/product...blade-set.html

2020 seems to be the last year of the stars. Can't believe it's been that long already.

Again, confirm with your model number and the parts book. Totally ignore the number on your blades, since you seem confident that they're wrong.

The model number is 13APA1TEA10. It was purchased in early 2024.

I probably made a bad assumption. I assumed the "S Blade's" S shaped opening would be big enough for the opening's edges to be seen beyound the bolt head that mounts the blade to the spindle.

I didn't see any part of the blade's spindle hole showing (see attached picture in original post) so I thought it must have the star shaped spindle hole. If there is a "S" shaped spindle hole in my installed blade it is much smaller than I anticipated.

I hadn't bothered to pull the blades as I was wanting to replace them with new ones once I had the replacements in hand. I will get out to the shop and have a look.

Best regards,

Scott

This is the spindle for the model you posted. It is "S" shaped.
You will not be able to see anything without taking the blade off, the nut and washer cover everything.
If you are bagging you want hi-lift blades, not mulching.

How embarrassing...

This is what assumptions will do. I just didn't think the "S" shape hole would be small enough to be hidden by the bolt head.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
