I recently purchased a Cub 100 and I am trying to learn all I can about these tractors.
Are the mule drives and subframes deck specific? ie 38" different than 42" Are the mule drives and subframes model specific? The reason I ask is mine came with a 50" deck so I am looking to purchase a deck and want to make sure that it will work. Is there a part number on the rear wheels? Mine appear to be two different wheels based on the backspacing. Thanks in advance for the information. |

The mule drive and subframe will be the same for the 38" and 42" decks available for the 100. There's even a 48" deck available that used the same one. The mule drives are model specific in the sense you need one for a narrow frame tractor. You have three options there: narrow frame, wide frame, and spread frame. Narrow frame started with the 70/100 and went through the 6/7 series. The 8/9 series started the wide frame. I don't know the difference with the spread frame machines....
There are two styles of subframes. Pin-on and Quick-Attach. The deck and subframe styles have to match. Which rear wheels are you referring to? The tractor or deck wheels? |

Here is a frame comparison from our library. Starting with the 102 model, they had a taller tunnel. Except for the 71,72, and 73, they have the low tunnel with round fenders verses the squared off fenders of the other models. I spent a lot of time looking on line at pictures and comparing them. It takes awhile to figure out the difference. Randy

I put a wide frame 38" deck off my 149 with the deck carrier to the factory mule drive. Works great. I have the correct deck for that model but this deck is nicer. Just passed by uniontown Monday in route to Kansas. Spent a lot of time working and fishing in and around your area.

The tractor wheels. The spacing between the tire and the frame is different by a few inches. One almost touching and the other a couple inches. I guess it only matters because it came with a snow plow so I was going to use chains.

I don't believe there is any part number stamped into the wheel, but I have seen part numbers painted on the inside. Unfortunately you have to remove the tire to see it. |

This is the only picture I have of the back of the tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
