I just dropped close to $150 at Binder Books for manuals for both the tractors (1450 after SN cut, 1650 before…) I picked up in the last 2 weeks. The gentleman who took my order was quite helpful and very easy to work with. I’m looking forward to receiving my purchase.
Having said that, I didn't realize until the end of the call the manuals were reproductions. I didn’t get that impression at all from the website. I was a little surprised by this fact. I don't know what the licensing costs are (he’d mentioned they were license reproductions) - but had assumed that, based on the prices, they were originals. So, since they are not, how much ARE the originals? Anyone have a source for them? I figure the Binder set will be a good "garage set” for reference, but I'd hope to find originals if possible... Also, the Binder rep mentioned that the manuals are scanned versions - I ordered them to be shipped as fast as possible, hoping to get them by this weekend to help with some wrenching - so I guess I'll see for myself, but in the mean time, does anyone have comments/feedback on how good the scanning is? I've seen with some technical document reproductions where (especially on drawings) small details, shaded areas, or small font part numbers can be or are impossible to read. I'm just wondering. I'm not trying to make any waves (nor do I expect any need to) but again, was just surprised about the fact that they're repros. Thanks for any input. -Calvin |

You do know that 95% of all of the manuals you ordered are available for free download? You could have saved the $150 by printing them yourself (unless you have a HP printer, then you may have broke even on ink cost :biggrin2.gif

I can't speak to the reproductions, but the ones I got from IH, 20 some years ago aren't worth a crap! The print is fine (lol fine meaning OK) and the drawings are good but the photographs are real dark and in most cases you can't tell what's going on in them.
cledford, being that you are new here please don't think I'm a habitual complainer or anything... It's just this one topic... At least I don't think I'm a habitual complainer... am I? Anyway, YES, you could have downloaded about anything you would need from here or other places on the net and saved yourself a bunch of money. |

I am going to stick my neck out and say that most of the IH manuals today are vary scarce, since IH went out of business 30 years ago.
I would venture to say, that reproductions from the few manuals left behind, would be the norm.

Binder books update…
Since I posted questions – I see it as only fair to post my own answers to them I received my order from Binder books today. Extremely, (extremely!) well done product on their part. If I didn’t know, I’d think the manuals were the real deal – aside from the “covers” (which would be heavier stock normally) are printed on the same weight paper the pages are on. Otherwise, bravo! The gentleman I worked with provided *outstanding* customer service. The materials arrived BEFORE they should have and were exceedingly well packaged. I can’t say enough about how well the product is put together. They are so nice and easy to read I see these as staying OUT of the garage! I’ll go ahead and find the PDFs suggested by others and print pages as required when performing service, but these will be an invaluable reference. All printing is *very* crisp and easy to read. Drawings are 100%. Most pictures actually look better than those in the one OEM IH manual I’ve seen, although there are a few hard to see. I recall some of the IH pictures being difficult to make out as well – so I would assume that this is where it comes from. One whole, I highly recommend them! I would echo others suggestions on getting the electronic versions, but I’m also obsessive compulsive. I’ve seen one or two, which look to be real manuals scanned into PDF format on a flat bed scanner. Therefore, (and not knocking whoever did the service to the community scanning all those pages in!) many are slightly off in orientation, some of the pics are harder to make out. They will make a *fine* tool as well, on a PC, where individual pages can be printed, zoomed, searched for txt – but for simply sitting at the table reading over, I’m glad to have these printed ones as well – vs. a stack of pages I pumped out one the home printer, looking like I photocopied it all at the library Binder books - Highly recommended, thumbs up! -Calvin |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
