I just noticed in my 124 Operator's Manual that some 72's 104's and 124's had a rear PTO. I assume it was an option... has anyone had or even seen one of these, and what was it used for? I'm wondering if it could have been used with a tiller, instead of the long belt?

Nope.
It was an option but IH never sold anything to use with it. |

This question gets asked all the time. Double07 is correct. I will also note.... the PTO turns the opposite direction as any "standard" PTO, so it's use is pretty limited. Yes, it had a function, but not with any CC implement. You could run a small auger or bale elevator/hiker with it. Or, you could do what some have done, and make your own attachments for it. Also, it came as an option on all of the gear drive models through the quietline tractors. Although, it seems that the Original, 122 and 124's were the most common tractors found with them. (That I do not know why.) After that a "new" rear PTO was only available on the hydro SGT's. It was MUCH different than the old version and PTO driven implements were available for it. Collectors like them. Since you asked if anyone has one, I will add that I do.

There's a couple of the hub city reversers on flea bay right now, wow you weren't kidding, looks like you can get an entire cub in excellent condition for the money that people want for them. Supply versus demand yet again.

Here is a reverser on CL, $450 and it looks like it has been hanging on the wall of a cow barn for 40 years.
Right next to the cows. https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/grd/4398499181.html Has anyone ever seen any that were homemade? They do not appear to be complicated units. ebay unit: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...m=151279006183 This white one has an extra housing behind it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cub-cadet-re...p2054897.l4275 What does that do ? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
