Default XT1 Enduro Series Intellipower - Not Starting

Hello, my name is Martin, and I'm new to the forum. I will appreciate your help with my current Lawn Tractor/mower problem. This is an XT1 Intellipower LT42. The model No. is 13A6A92SA10 and the Serial No. is 1G17RB10103. The engine label reads "Cub Cadet 547cc OHV INTELLIPOWER". I bought the mower in September 2024 from Tractor Supply, and it has about 20-30 hrs. on it. It doesn't have a gauge, so I don't know exact hours.

The machine was running great until recently when it started, somewhat suddenly, running "roughly" and sputtering, especially at higher RPM, even when the PTO is not engaged. I parked the tractor and turned it off. The next day, I attempted to start it but had no luck. I replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the air filter. When I removed the fuel filter, the gasoline flowed freely from the tank into my gas container, so I know the line is not plugged. I removed the spark plug to examine it and noted that it had a black, powdery film all over it (carbon?). I cleaned it off and reinstalled it. The sparkplug gap was intact, and the plug was not worn. I also examined the carburetor, and though I don't have much experience with them, I concluded that it looked clean, not gummy or clogged.

All of my efforts had no effect in getting the machine started. The engine has plenty of crank, so I'm confident the battery is fine.

The machine is under manufacturer's warranty, but, unfortunately, there is not a service provider within 100 miles that will have a look at it. I would appreciate any help in understanding what might be going on with this mower and possibly getting it going again.

Best, Martin W

You could have any number of things causing your problem.
Since it's under warranty, my suggestion is to go that route because you probably will eventually sooner or later.
This video about "Intellipower" will give you and idea of what your up against.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
