Fixing a cracked block with a clamp?
So I saw this CL ad where a guy is selling a LT1042 with the 19HP Courage engine. But the engine has a crack in it on the right side (when looking from driver position). He has it “repaired” with a clamp around the crack and swears it doesn’t leak oil.
I have no plans of buying this mower, but is this even a thing? Clamping a crack back together and continuing to use it? The guy claims he has fixed another engine same way and it’s been running for over 2 years…

It is called a "jury rig"
It will hold as long as the clamp stays in place. Might last the life of the rest of the mower, then again, who knows? I see he has used some goober stuff, prolly an epoxy, to stop the oil seep. The mower is worth what it would be without a motor, parts in other words. Don't think I would depend on the "repair" unless it was to finish mowing that day, till a replacement can be acquired.

Yeah no way I’d pay anywhere near the $600 he’s asking for the mower. I don’t trust anyone else’s rigged up repairs, let alone my own lol
