K321. Spec.# 60166A. Can anyone tell me what the ACR lift is for this engine? With this engine while trying to start comes up on compression it will stop for a moment, belt slips on the S/G and thens turns the engine over. This is with a 1000 amp battery hooked to it. I have contacted Kohler to no avial. Thank you for your time. Don B.

Is the belt tight, in good condition, and are the ground connections clean? If a 1000 CCA batter can't spin it over, you have some other problem...
And what model tractor is this? |

Might try turning the engine over by hand and see if compression relief is working or not, if it deadstops and is very hard to turn then you can probably start there.
If the engine turns pretty free (2 revolutions of the crank) then it's probably pulley or belt related. |

Section 9 in a Kohler Service Manual has all the infomation you need to check an set compression release.
I would double check your ground(s) as Matt suggested. |

1st of all, Thank you everyone for your replies. A special Thank you to Mr. Bedell for the diagram. Matt, the tractor is a 149, the belt is a new Gates ribbed belt and all the grounds are clean and check good. Yosemite Sam, when turning over by hand, it is very hard to turn when coming up on compression. Merk, I must have missed that section when checking the service manual. I just rebuilt this engine this spring, due to it blowing the governor. I though at that time that one springs on the ACR was bent funny and did not realize that I could buy new springs. This engine has always been hard to start not like my 127 which starts easy. Again Thank all of you for the help. Any more suggestion/ideas will be greatly appreicated. Don B.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
