I have a '67 Cub Cadet 122 with manual transmission, no creeper gear. I was hauling a heavy load up a hill last year and thought I burned up the clutch -- it quit pulling and acted like it got put into neutral. Could shift between gears with engine running with no movement. I parked the tractor until this past week when I replaced the clutch with a new one. Well guess what... still doesn't move.
*except* If you put ever so slight pressure on the pedal it will try to move and sometimes drive on flat ground!! I adjusted the clutch and brake linkages as the manual stated with no improvement. I noticed the driveshaft has some forward/back play in it (about 1/2 inch max). Is this normal? I'm at a loss on what to check next, any help would be greatly appreciated! Here's a video link (to the end of my video) where you can see the pedal/walking that it does: https://youtu.be/D_HFIeqt0PE?t=1318 The video was shot before I adjusted the pedal, but the performance is the same. Thanks guys, Sam |

Something is grossly wrong with your Clutch and/or Linkage.

I can get photos of it tomorrow, sure. Maybe something holding the springs in place broke? Glad I didn't put the grille back on yet since I'll likely be pulling the clutch assembly out.

Check for a broken spirol pin at the transmission coupling.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
