What model is it?
Had a guy stop out today for some parts for a Ford tractor, that was about as much info as I could get out of him. I asked several times what the model number was and he couldnt tell me, he couldn't even tell me the year. How do people own equipment and they don't even know the model number? It's on the side of the hood so you have to look at it every time you use it. People always complain that they have to call in to order parts from us, they don't understand why we don't have a website they can order through. It's because half the people that call here looking for parts have a completely different tractor than what they think they have, everybody thinks their old Ford is an 8n because that's what their pappy told them, I hate to tell them that their pappy didn't know what he was talking about.

Same thing on craigslist. Wrong model cub. Then they put in the ad that's it's from the 50's.. I think people inherent stuff and just have no clue.

I guess some people just use them as a tool and don't care what kind it is as long as it gets the job done.
But if you're going too buy parts or sell it, how hard is it to look at the model number and see what it is? Or at least get a picture.

The ones I saw on craigslist had the decals partially or totally missing. If a guy had been working it fo a couple years he would know what it is. That's what leads me to believe that it was inherited. Then they have no clue.

I used to work part time at the same IH dealer dad worked for, and used to hang out there with him on Saturdays. This was LONG before computers became common place. They had an index card file that sat on the counter. This way if you walked up and needed an air filter for your Cadet, they just looked your name up and had all your equipment listed, complete with serial numbers. Tons of folks have no idea what they have, or they send the wife or kids to pick up parts. Honest--they would have folks call home (using the phone on the counter) and get somebody to go out to the shed and get the number off the hood. Then there were the folks that needed a part for their Farmall--you know one of those you plow garden with. We'd tell them there were 5 options and then the blank stares began. There were some farm tractor parts books that even had the customer name and serial number wrote in the front.
