Default Another Buckeye, with Trojan Genes

Greetings! I'm one of the growing flock of newbies from Ohio. I live in Rootstown (Portage County) after transplanting from Southern California 4 1/2 years ago. Spent many a summer in NE Ohio while teaching in SoCal - now I get to live here! (Wife's a native, and needed to become caregiver to her 92 y/o mother.)

Got my first garden tractor yesterday after four summers of push mowing our 3/4 acre. Got a 73 off Craig's List with a snow blade. I was a groundskeeping supervisor for many years before teaching, however, so I have spent thousands of hours on various mowers: Kut-Kwik Slopemaster being the most fun, flail mower behind a '53 Ford Golden Jubilee being the scariest - nearly drove it into a creek with a 10 foot drop while clearing tall weeds! A 72" Jacobsen was my mainstay as I made pretty patterns on the ball fields of the university where I worked. Never heard of Cub Cadet until I moved permanently to Ohio! For that matter, had never heard of Cornhole or Euchre, either!

Glad to join OCC as I plan to restore my 73, even though it's in usable condition at the moment....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
