Default Good Deal?

I currently have an 1864 with a 48gt deck in pretty good shape. It has over 1000 hours, but a new ch23 engine within the last couple hundred hours. A buddy seen my mower and said his grandma has one just like it in her barn (hers is an 1863). So he went over there and took some picture of it for me today and said he tried to start it but the battery was to weak and only cranked really slow a few times. He said it has been sitting there for at least a year. He also said he's messed with it some, as before it would run for a few minutes and then die. He was thinking it was a vacuum or fuel issue. I asked him how many hours, but he forgot to look. His grandma is wanting to get rid of it. She said she would take $300 for the mower with the 48gt deck on it and she also has a blade and chains she would sell for $200 extra. Is that worth it for a tractor that has been sitting and knowing it has some issues? I don't know if I would want the blade as I have a walk behind snow blower and a blacktop drive way. I'm going to go look at it in tha next week. What should I bring look?

Sounds like a great deal to me. The problems mentioned sound like easy fixes. I say go check it out, and if it looks good (and the motor is not blown lol) go for it. TB

This is more of a "what is it worth" thread, so I moved it to that section.

My opinion is the 1863 isn't nearly the tractor your 1864 is. Aside from the lack of power steering, the 1863 has the hydro gear transmission. I might go $300 for the whole mess, if I could see it run. Problems can build quickly when they sit. Pics would be helpful tho.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
