I got the tiller and pto home yesterday after a 5 hour round trip. It was pretty interesting off loading that behemoth from a Ford Super Duty with my lovely (& small) wife as a helper. I didn't have time to get any pics yet, as I had to get cleaned up to go visit a very close friend in the hospital recovering from brain surgery. (Doing extremely well and should be released today!
) Anyway, it seems very complete, as I have been studying the parts diagram on partstree for both the tiller and PTO and in very good condition. I'm hoping to spend some time with it over the next few days. Does anyone have a manual for the tiller, and/or recommended fluids and capacities? I'm going to order an aftermarket 3 point hitch today made like the original for the rear pto. I'll be taking lots of pics for those who are interested and hope it all works out well!! On a final note, I really screwed up yesterday. I noticed that there were 2 (yeah, 2) 1872's in this guys yard. One was complete (and sold), the other was the donor of the tiller, pto & 3 pt (I just missed it). The donor had a new replacement kohler engine, no driveshaft, dual hydraulics, power steering, good grill & all the sheetmetal (except for the engine shrouds). I didn't have a way to get it home, so I had to pass. I've been kicking myself since.

A few quick pics from earlier today.
Tiller ![]() ![]() ![]() Rear PTO & Tiller Shaft ![]() Rear Plate for Alum rear end Looks easy enough to fab up the mounts on my CI plate.![]() ![]() I have a little cleaning & lubing to do. I wasn't aware that the rear PTO switch, wasn't really a rear PTO switch. It's actually a selector switch to choose the front or rear pto and the front PTO switch will activate the one chosen. I'm glad I got the guy to get it off the tractor for me before I left. I'll have a little wiring to figure out also ![]() Now I'm just waiting on confirmation of my order for the 3 point. Better pics when I dig in to this in the near future.

Scott - how does yours work? That info is basically straight from the PTO manual.
Page 15 of the 433 Rear PTO manual calls it a "Directional Switch". I'm not married to connecting it this way, just what I found. There is also a "Wire Lead" (3 wires) provided with the kit, that I don't have and looks to provide power thru one wire and then the appropriate switch wire to the PTO's.

Your wire harness should have the option built in so it shouldn't be an issue.
Mine has two independent PTO switches, one does not effect the other. BTW I rewired another tractor this last weekend and I used a 'protected' automotive switch for the pto.....and after mowing with it last night I'll have it NO other way from now on...absolutely hassle free. Scott |
