We recently acquired a 149 with a 16 horse Briggs and Stratton vanguard re-power. It is very well done, even has a working electric PTO. It sat for a while. I got it to run and idle for a bit but when I tried to start it again it wouldn't stay running, and it just did it again earlier today. I just painted the hood IH White and was gonna order decals but I realized that it had a 16 hp in it now and not a 14. So I had a dilemma. 169 or 149 decals. My grandpa likes being original and wanted 149 decals, but I wanted to be matching with the HP so I thought about 169 decals.
I need help deciding. 169 decals or 149 decals. P.S. These are the only pictures I have u til this weekend. I have 2 others but I can't upload them for some reason.

Let the decals match the serial number of the tractor is what I say. My vote is for the 149 decals, Connor, as engines will come and go. I know hoods will also, but I would want the rest of the tractor to "match up".

It's a 149 w/ a 16 HP engine. Not a 169.

I know. The 169 looks more impressive. (Who doesn't want more HP?) And, you may not care about the numbers, but, if it ever changes hands, the next owner may be more impressed with matching numbers. I had a 149 with a later model 12HP, and was tempted to re-number it, but resisted. The next owner did not care.

I vote for 169. I have a JD 317 that I repowered with a CH22 so it now has 322 decals.
![]() Oh yeah it also has a few other mods.

I can't see it,but does the oil filter fit in between the frame rails or is it notched out?
Keep it a 149,like the udders said.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
