hey fellas. picked up a 129 yesterday. was riding around for a bit until the tire went flat, so parked it in the garage and got to work. first off, the P.O. broke off the hydro lever and decided he wanted to use vice grips instead
![]() removed tunnel cover, seat pan, discovered the steel flap on the tunnel cover to push in the check valves rusted and broke off, and the hydro and everything is caked in crap, as is the screen over the flywheel and all underneath. a bunch of missing bolts, etc. small stuff so far. i plan on taking the engine out, power washing everything, giving it a quick coat of paint and some much needed fluid changes, along with repairing the damage that others have done over the years. also got a 3 blade mower deck + sub frame. not sure what model? just though i'd share with everybody, i keep reading others' threads and have been getting antsy to get another ![]() few more pics |

Congratulations on a running 129 in the rough! It will be a great tractor for you once you give it the attention that it needed over the years but probably never got. That is the way to buy 'em! It will be interesting seeing your progress pictures.

All of that is pretty typical, a lot of people think it's just an old lawn mower...
Yet at the same time, they think they are worth a fortune in that condition. Go Figure. Congratulations on the 129.

Looks like the back seal on the pump is leaking pretty good, the way the top of the transaxle is caked up. Nice score, give that thing some luv.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
