Browsing Craigslist this morning, I happened across a parts tractor being sold. It's an IH 482 with a replacement 12hp Briggs motor that "ran when parked". It was parked because (and this is what the guy said) "the trans-axle wasn't working right so I took it apart to fix it and didn't want to put it back together, it was more of a project than I wanted." So, he's selling a 482 with a "working" motor, trans in pieces, and the side panels are cut a bit to "allow more air flow for the bigger motor". He's got $125 on it but I'm sure he just wants it gone. So, what good is a 482? This one (in my point of view) basically comes down to a tractor minus engine and trans. What do you guys think?

Parts.
![]() Or, find a hydro trans-axle and a twin cylinder..... then badge it a 682. ![]() Or a gear drive and make a 582. Or fix the rear, and you have a ...... um... repowered 482. |

I'd go for the #2 trailer.

482 and 1100's were good for parts. the engines didn't have enough horsepower to shake enough to break anything

Mowing the lawn and pulling light trailers. Couldn't really expect them to do a whole lot. But the one your taking about might as well be a parts machine.

I do really like that tractor!! Cut grass with it all summer! It WILL run a 50" deck! Takes all 10 horses, but it will do it. Not sure if it is going to sit this winter or not. One thing is for sure though, it will be getting a new engine before spring. ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
