Default UH OH!!!!! I think I have the beginnings of Yellow Fever...

Went to my wifes aunts today to help her husband Rich carry panelling board down into the cellar and when I pulled in,he was working on his new to him JD 318. We looked it over and it has 800 hours but pretty nice overall. That's when it went all down hill. I told him I own my 2 JD'S and my DB walk behind as well as a 1200 Cub.He then says he has a couple Cubs in his outer shed. I'm thinking maybe a newer one so I went along to see. One was a rear motored 85 with a fiberglass looking body which was complete, but needed some care. Then I see a rear engined Snapper,a 112 JD both in nice shape, but that's where it went bad. I looked at a really nice 147 he had that he told me had charging troubles. I am thinking the starter generator but wouldn't count out the repairs to the wiring I seen,as well as the regulator torn apart. He knows I work on Cubs and made the statement he wanted to part ways with the 147. It has wheel weights but I believe either the rear lights were removed or someone added the fronts, but all the wiring seemed correct though. The rear reflectors were stick on but I didn't look to see if the wiring was there. Appeared to have electric lift, but there was some kind of red bracket with a muffler style camp holding it to the lift handle. I told him on the way to the shed I wanted to get a hydro tractor and considered a narrow frame one. He stated that he wants me to come get it and see if I can get it going andhe would decide what to do with it. He also then said it would look good in my garage next to mine and he would know I would take care of it. It starts and runs apparently, but no charging...It needs a new upper dash as the one on it is badly cracked, but the paint looks super...It looks like I may have my second cub real soon..I wasn't expecting this,so sorry no pics yet..

Default I am an expert!

Please step back and give him some room! He needs air,(and some more room and a few parts for the 147)! LOL! good luck with the 147. I loved mine the way it was and can't wait to finish it up for the summer mowing.

"Come and get it, see if you can get it going, and I'll decide what to do with it". Call me pessimistic, but I'd be more inclined to offer him a dollar amount to take it off his hands, go and get it and see if I could get MY tractor going.

I think he's giving you a hint! I bet it will be sitting in your garage shortly and you'll owe your "wife's aunt's husband" bigtime!!!!!!

I was blown away when I went there. In his garage was his just acquired JD 318,a 1941 Farmall H, a Simplicity with snow cab and blower. Then the back shed had a newer 4 wheeler, this 147,the 85,a JD 112,as well as the Snapper and a real nice JD 80 cart. He also has a Cub 102 which he painted red a long time ago.He was sure hinting to me and must have seen the astonished look when I laid eyes on the 147. We discussed a few things and he was impressed that I knew what I was talking about. I told him and will tell you all here,I know alot less about narrow frames compared to my limited knowledge of the wide frames, but I don't usually back down from a challenge. I was shocked when he made the statement about looking good in my new garage and he knew it. I would bet if the snow would have been gone,he'd have had me come after it .If it works in my favor,I'll surely fill you all in. I will surely say it will minimally show up here soon enough. I have been looking and researching these tractors and have a couple questions. Was the electric lift mandatory? This one doesn't have it as I seen what they look like. I located a pic of the bracket this one has and wonder if anyone can enlighten me. This is not the tractor in question, just a reference pic..

That bracket is used to lift front mounted imlements like a blade or a snowthrower.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
