Default Cub Cadet 169

I put a listing on the local Craigslist last week end looking for another cub cadet. I got an offer to buy a non-running 169 and an extra 169 for parts. I asked him how much he wanted for it ,and all he could do was comment that there was only 4000 of these made.

So, my question is, how much should I offer him? I have no idea why it don't run or how much may or may not have been scavenged off of either of the 2 tractors. Is it really worth a lot more because there were only 4000 made ,or is he looking to make a fortune off of nothing?

I'm not a collector just looking for a quality tractor to mow a do snow work with. My 122 is a great tractor but, I think the bug is itching at me. I want another and then probably another. My wife is in disagreeance though.

Thank you for the help.

The "only 4000 made" part could go either way. Yes, it might be worth more due to rarity, but it might cost you a LOT more to restore due to rarity.
I definitely wouldn't talk price until I saw them in person. If it's just tractors w/o any implements or decks, the price should go way down I'd think.
Good luck, and I hope your wife comes around to your way of thinking...

I'm almost positive the only differance between the 169 and the 149, 129 is the motor and graphics. So finding parts wouldn't be a problem unless your looking for a engine

The muffler and shield are NLA, which could be a bit of a problem if they don't have them and something to keep in mind.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
