I put the the 36 inch snow thrower on today and noticed the PTO works only intermittently.
If the PTO switch is on, the tractor will not start, so I know that part of the puzzle is still correct. Why does it shut off when running and now not start. I need help on. Thanks!

My 1450 has the same problem. I'm going to watch this thread if you don't mind.

Most of the PTO control switches had 2 sets of contacts/circuits.
One was the safety interlock to prevent starting with PTO on, the other circuit was to provide power to the PTO. I have to "jiggle" my 800's switch to start the engine |

I don't know the reason for this problem to happen, What I do know is that I
had a similar problem with my 1250 Nightmare, and replacing the PTO switch corrected the problem. With the bad switch in place, sometimes I had to close and open the switch (turn it on and off) a couple of times to get the starter circuit to close. Finally, I had enough, and replaced the switch to do something. The problem appears to be fixed. |

I've also seen too low battery volts not be able to pull in PTO. I've had to jump start some off, the charging system will run the tractor but not enough juice to run tractor and pull in PTO. But the PTO switch may end up being your culprit, do you have a meter or test light?

1) Using the meter to check the switch, what wires should I hook to and look for how many ohms to see if the switch is bad? 2) Also, is this the part number for the switch (CUB CADET 725-3022, 925-3022, 1073 Electric PTO Switch) THanks

Got the switch off the tractor. What terminals are "a" and "b" to test the ohms?
Thanks --there are no letter labels on the 5 posts ![]() Todd

Your switch is bad. I had the same problem with my 1450. I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts and it has worked good for the last three years.

Thanks Roland for the chart. Please HELP!
received new switch, put it in, and still nothing for PTO working, WE have alot of snow on ground and predicted 16 more inches this weekend! I may have now an extra "good" switch i will mail to who can help me get my 1650 pto working ![]() My 1650 has to plastic housing terminals that plug into the pto switch. one has 3 terminals so it can't be plugged in wrong (although it has only 2 wires in it. I believe the A terminal on Rolands chart is empty from a wire, maybe it' s the "E" terminal I have to look again in daylight out there) I have the other plastic plug with 2 wires( orange and red) the red goes into the "u" terminal in my pic. No pto working when I activate switch back and forth with tractor running. Tried flipping the red and orange terminal and still nothing. this is frustrating for sure! Please help! thanks Todd

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
