Default Hy-Tran vs. Competitor

Hello, I found this Case IH Trans-Hydra fluid at the store I work at, I can get it for $42 for 5 gallons,

http://www.truevalue.com/product/Hyd...Gals/41109.uts

I know there are some of you out there who are die hard Hy-trans fans, but honestly my CC dealer is a ripoff and no one really deals with him, I am thinking this stuff is pretty close to Hy-Tran. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks!

I doubt it encapsulates water like HyTran does...I have never seen a generic 'equivalent' fluid that does.

Do you have a Case heavy equipment dealer nearby? They carry HyTran, and it should be cheaper than through Cub Cadet.

A reputable IH mechanic of 40+ years told me that any trans fluid is ok, even the stuff from TSC so I'm sure it'd be ok. If I could afford it I'd put in Hy-Tran no question if it were me.

If I had a dollar for any time I heard 'so and so has 40 years of experience...blah blah blah and they know what they are talking about' I could probably quit my job. Experience is meaningless if he hasn't seen what the generic fluids do and don't do. I have had several tractors that I have drained several quarts of WATER out of, and there was no rust in the transmission because the HyTran clung to the gears and inside of the transmission. I have yet to see any other transmission fluid do this. You can use what you want, but there is no substitute.

Okay, I understand. I went to Case's website... no dealers within 50 miles. And Cub cadet Dealers want my left arm for some, Sorry... but this comes down to a point of reality... I am not breaking the bank for a tractor that can have its rear end replace for $50. I hate to say it, but its the truth. I know most of you will cringe at hearing me say that, I love these Cubs, but reality has to set in at some point. I will check out the Napa Stuff.

Well, I consider the fact that he's got a high clientel of farmers in a 100 mile radius easy that personally ask for him when they need something repaired, call him up at home on his days off because they don't trust just anyone working on his stuff, AND I've seen first hand for 28 years the success he's had because he knows what he's talking about, but blah blah blah I'm not going to use his advice when it comes to a 40 year old Cub Cadet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
