and it's the only one that came with the tractor when I bought it. Never got around to getting a spare made, dangit... Anyway, how can I get a new one made? Can a locksmith cut one based upon the numbers on the old key, or can I order one from somewhere?
Many thanks. |

I left mine in the ignition when I hauled my 123 home and it fell out on the freeway somewhere. Doh!
Fortunately, there's not a lot of different keys. I got one listed for my 123 on Ebay and it worked fine. Perhaps some of the fine sponsors of the forum have them also! John

I know I could replace the entire switch, for about $40.00. But the switch is fine. I'll give the local locksmith a call on Monday, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if they were able to get a replacement key.

If I remember correctly, the keys from my 123 was broken off and all I did was worked it around and finally got it out, then used one from a 106 to replace it.
I used one from my 102 to replace the one from my 100, so they all seem to work from one to another, so you should be able to get a new used one or get one from someone and try it, then just get a copy made.

If it a 1x8/9 wide frame series, or narrow frame and down, you can use the same key from a IH tractor from the 50's to 70's, or mentioned cub models. Or "borrow" the keys from JD zero turn mowers sold at box stores like lowes, guess how i know! ![]() If its a Quietline or 82 series Xtrememotorworks makes a key that will work. Intek is the manufaturer of the ignition switch i think.

The "key" for a 12 hp Briggs snowblower engine is a plastic "key".
It pushes 2 contacts apart, so the engine ignition is not grounded. I replaced the lost key with a plastic wire tie!! |

The keys from an original thru a 169 are the same. One fits all if you have all of them you would only need one key.If you use a thin piece of wire with a small bend on it and insert it into the part of switch that has the tumblers on it you should be able to pull the broken key out.Keys are available from our sponsors....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
